According to RE'FLEKT, the company's new office will serve the region's "world-famous" creative, tech, and studio communities. RE'FLEKT develops "drag-and-drop" virtual reality tools which it says allows its clients to create "interactive experiences out of 360 images and video within minutes." The company says its software runs on iOS or Android and mobile VR headsets such as Google Cardboard or Samsung Gear VR, and soon Google Daydream View. http://www.socaltech.com/european_vr_firm_re_flekt_opens_offices_in_playa_vista/s-0070012.html Xencor Names New Board Member ---- Monrovia-based biopharmaceuticals developer Xencor announced this morning that it has named Kevin Gorman, ph.D., to its board of directors. Gorman is the CEO of Neurocrine Biosciences, where he has been since 1993; he previously was an investor at Avalon Medical Partners, L.P. Gorman replaces director Robert Baltera, Jr., who the company said will not stand for re-election to its board. NantOmics Buys Genos ---- Culver City-based NantOmics, which is developing molecular diagnostics technology, said last week that it has acquired Genos, a developer of next-generation sequencing, personal genetic discovery and research. Financial terms of the acquisition were not announced. NantOmics--one of the companies owned by billionaire Patrick Soon Shiong under the NantWorks umbrella--said it will integrate the technology, technical expertise, and data visualization and research tools developed by Genos into its own analysis tools. Resonant Trumpets New Patent Wins ---- Goleta-based Resonant, which develops technology used for radio frequency (RF) filtering, says that it has just surpassed 125 issued and pending patents covering its technology. The company aid the two latest patents, issued on March 28th, were US Patent No.: 9,608,595, "Acoustic wave filters with enhanced rejection" and US Patent No.: 9,607,119, "Simulating effect of temperature on acoustic wave filters". Resonant is led by CEO George B. Homes. Hulu Opens Up Customer Service Site In Texas ---- Los Angeles-based streaming television- and video-provider Hulu has selected San Antonio, Texas, as the site for a new customer service center, the company said last week. Hulu said it will hire 300 people by the end of 2017, and another 200 in 2018, as part of the new "viewer experience headquarters" in Texas. Silicon Beach companies appear to be been using Texas as a convenient, low cost area for their customer service operations: this week, Santa Monica-based TaskUs also said it is opening up a customer support site in Texas, and Snapchat also has operations there. Honest Company briefly had a large staff doing customer support in Austin, but it closed that office in December after a shift in its business strategy.
