Palisades Venture Capital Mystery Solved ---- The true origins of funding in two, Los Angeles area companies in late June, Gamemine, and BlockFraud, has been solved by Dan Primack of Axios. According to Primack, Gamemine's $20M investment round was actually self funded by CEO Daniel Starr, with family and friends. It also appears that Starr is also the (sole) investor behind Los Angeles-based BlockFraud. A number of Los Angeles area insiders were attempting to figure out what the mysterious "Palisades Venture Capital Group" was from. There is an existing, unrelated Palisades Venture Capital, which now goes by Palisades Growth Capital. The "new" Palisades Venture Capital, which is actually GameMine's CEO, Daniel Starr, had posted a mysterious website which was plagiarized from the existing website of Spark Capital. http://www.socaltech.com/interview_with_shaan_sethi_jaanuu/s-0071015.html YP Holdings Acquired By Dex Media ---- Los Angeles-based YP.com, the provider online directories and services to help businesses get their companies online which has been remade by a number of technology executives into a provider of local business marketing and automation software, has been acquired by competing directory provider Dex Media. Intellectual property is becoming increasingly important when it comes to business valuation as well as success – especially for tech companies. A well-developed patent portfolio (along with an intellectual property portfolio, generally) conveys a high degree of technical and commercial sophistication to potential investors, customers, competitors, and licensees. It also proves that you value investment in research and development and are prepared to take appropriate steps to protect those investments. This presentation will provide an introduction to intellectual property generally (including patents, trademarks, copyright and trade secrets), as well as related issues to keep in mind, so that you will be better equipped to identify and protect your intellectual property in a timely manner, both in the U.S. and abroad.
