Vernon-based Romeo Power, a new startup focused on developing
battery-based, energy storage, has raised $30M in a seed funding round.
Soure of the funding was not announced. Romeo Power, led by founder and CEO
Michael Patterson, claims it already has $65M in orders on the books for
delivery in 2018. The company is developing cylindrical, Lithium-ion
battery packs for use both in electric cars, trucks, buses, and forklifts,

Los Angeles-based MANDT VR, an augmented reality and virtual reality
production company, said on Thursday that it has named Mike Dunn as the
company's Chief Technology Officer. Mandt was most recently CIO at VER, and
also had previously served as Chief Technology Officer at Time Warner,
Hearst Interactive Media and TrueCar. Dunn also was CTO at Dell Online,

Culver City-based Jukin Media, which finds and licenses viral content, is
planning a major expansion next to its existing offices in Culver City.
According to the company this week, it is opening up a new, 14,000 square
foot studio, which will be used for producing original videos, for both TV
and online distribution. The company--led by CEO and founder Jonathan
Skogmo--is venture backed by SPH Media Fund, Samsung Ventures, BDMI, Maker

*SpaceX Launches Satellite Into Space For Taiwan*

Los Angeles-based SpaceX successfully delivered the Formosat-5 satellite
for Taiwan into orbit on Thursday morning from Vandenberg Air Force Base,
just north of Santa Barbara, and also successfully landed the first stage
of its Falcon 9 rocket on a barge in the Pacific. The launch was obscured
from view in much of the Ventura and Los Angeles areas due to coastal
clouds. SpaceX said it had successfully deployed the Formosat-5 satellite

*Dreamhost Battles DDoS Attack, Plays Hot Potato With Neo Nazi Site*

Los Angeles-based web hosting provider Dreamhost apparently is the latest
ISP to get caught up in the game of "hot potato" with neo-Nazi, white
supremacist website The Daily Stormer. According to a post by the founder
of The Daily Stormer, Dreamhost booted the website earlier today citing its
terms of service. The Daily Stormer reportedly had resorted to using the
"dark web" after it was booted from GoDaddy and Google last week. (More...

*March Capital Leads Funding For Satellite Imagery Analysis Startup*

Los Angeles-based March Capital appears to be having a busy investment week
this week, and has led an $30M, Series B funding in Santa Fe, New
Mexico-based Descartes Labs, a developer of software used for satellite
imagery analysis. Descartes Labs said the Series B funding was led by March
Capital, and also included prior investors Crosslink Capital and Cultivian
