How Ordermark Is Taming The Chaos Of Online Restaurant Orders, With Alex Canter
----
If you run a restaurant, it turns out the move towards online ordering
is a recipe for chaos--with multiple online order services and apps,
all with their own way of getting orders to your restaurant. Santa
Monica-based Ordermark (www.getordermark.com) is looking to tame that
chaos with a system which takes all of those online orders, and feeds
them into a single printer at a restaurant. We chatted with CEO and
founder of Ordermark, Alex Canter, who tells us the story of how
Ordermark actually grew out of LA's famed Canter's Deli, and the chaos
of trying to handle online ordering at the landmark LA restaurant.
Ordermark is venture backed by TenOneTen Ventures, Act One Ventures,
Mucker Capital, and others. (More...)

Boring Co. Selected As Finalist For Chicago Tunnel System
----
The Boring Company, the startup founded by Elon Musk to bore tunnels
underneath cities for high speed transportation, is one of two
companies now in the running to dig a tunnel underneath downtown
Chicago, to O'Hare airport. According to local reports, The Boring
Company now just faces one competitior, O'hare Express LLC, a
consortium of companies made up of Meridiam, Antarctica Capital, JLC
Infrastructure, Mott MacDonald, and First Transit.

Second Sight Medical Names New CFO
----
Sylmar-based medical implant maker Second Sight Medical Products
announced this morning that it has named John T. Blake as the
company's new Chief Financial Officer. Blake was previously Senior
Vice President at aTyr Pharma, and also served at Volcano Corporation
and BD Biosciences. Blake replaces Thomas Miller, who had been CFO
since 2014. Miller apparently had resigned as CFO in June of 2017, but
had remained at his post until the company could find a new CFO.

Kozmo.com Launches Online Grocery Delivery In LA
----
Kozmo.com, the 90's-era online grocery delivery service brand, is
back--thanks to Los Angeles-based Yummy.com. According to Yummy.com,
it launched the Kozmo.com online warehouse club on Wednesday in Los
Angeles, offering up next-day delivery of bulk groceries, saying it
will delivery fresh produce, meat and packaged groceries, health and
beauty products, beer, wine and liquor through its service, at prices
similar to a traditional warehouse club--but without a membership fee.
Kozmo.com will charge a $5.99 delivery fee, and a $35 minimum order
for its service, according to Yummy.com. Yummy.com is led by CEO
Barnaby Montgomery. For now, the service is only available in Los
Angeles; Yummy.com said it has plans to expand Kozmo.com to new
markets by the end of the year.

Connectiv Acquired By Accruent
----
La Jolla-based Connectiv, a developer of cloud-based, mobile software
used by biomedical and clinical engineering groups to manage and
control their medical devices and equipment, has been acquired by
Austin, Texas-based Accruent. Financial terms of the buy were not
announced. Accruent said the acquisition is its seventh in the past 24
months. Accruent was founded in Los Angeles a little over 22 years
ago, but was acquired and moved to Texas in 2016.

Avalon Ventures Backs Averon For Mobile Identity Verification
----
La Jolla-based venture investor Avalon Ventures is the lead investor
in a round for San Francisco-based Averon, a developer of mobile
identity verification software. Averon said today that it has raised
$5M in a Series A1 funding round. The funding was led by Avalon
Ventures, and also included Salesforce founder and CEO Marc Benioff.
Averon says it has now raised $13.3M in total. Averon says it uses
mobile network signaling and hardware in smartphones for its mobile
identity software. Avalon Ventures' investment was managed by Brady
Bohrmann.

Maco.la Targets Blockchain With New Investment Fund
----
Los Angeles-based Maco.la Management, a new investment fund, said it
its targeting the blockchain market, with a new $6M fund. According to
Maco.la, it has a target of raising a total of $40M for its fund. The
