*Thin Line Capital Launches New Energy, Sustainability Fund*

Pasadena-based Thin Line Capital announced this morning that it has
launched a brand new, energey and sustainability fund, which will invest in
cleantech investing. The new firm, led by serial entrepnd investor Aaron
Fyke, said its seed stage fund has had its first close of over $5 million.
Fyke previously had been CEO of multiple companies for Idealab, and also
was a cleantech investor at Starfish Ventures in Australia. (More...

*The Trade Desk Names Chief Data, Trust Officer*

Ventura-based The Trade Desk announced this morning that it has named
Sandeep Swadia as its new Executive Vice President, Chief Data and Trust
Officer. Swadia was most recently CEO of White Ops, a company in the
digital advertising fraud prevention area, and according to The Trade Desk,
has more than 20 years of experience in the technology and media industry.
Swadia will be based in The Trade Desks's New York offices. Swadia reports

*AttackIQ Expands In Australia*

San Diego-based AttackIQ, a venture backed startup in the continuous
security validation market, says it has expanded in Australia, opening up
new regional offices in Sydney and Melbourne. According to AttackIQ, the
expansion will help it better serve partners int he APAC region. AttackIQ
recently raised $17.6M in its Series B funding, which came from Khosla

*The OIX Names Laurence Sotsky As CEO*

El Segundo-based The OIX, a fintech company that is developing tax credit
and incentives management software, has named technology startup veteran
Laurence Sotsky as its new CEO, according to the company. Sotsky was most
recently head of venture-backed, mobile application development startup
Hopscotch. According to The OIX, Sotsky was selected after an extensive

*Hulu Adds Content Downloads*

Los Angeles-based streaming television provider Hulu has finally added the
ability for (some) of its subscribers to download content for offline
viewing. According to Hulu, the new feature--which is available only to
subscribers of its "No Ads" plan--let users download offline content for
later viewing, and only on iOS--although the company says it hopes to add

*Sonos Now Offering Up Speakers Via Subscription*

Goleta-based whole-home, smart speaker manufacturer Sonos has just started
offering up its speakers via a subscription rental, in what appears to be a
pilot project in the Netherlands. According to a report from The Verge, the
new Sonos Flex program costs 15 euros a month and if successful will be
expanded beyond the pilot. It's unclear if Sonos has any plans to try out

*Waymo Starts Mapping LA Streets*

Self driving vehicle developer Waymo--a spinout of Alphabet, the parent
company of Google--said on Monday morning that it has started to explore
how autonomous vehicles "might fit into LA's dynamic transportation
environment". Waymo did not say what that means for the possibility of its
self driving cars hitting the Los Angeles streets. The company sayd it will
initially deploy three cars in Downtown Los Angeles and the Miracle Mile. (

The Two Bit Circus
Foundation Anti-Gala—a gala reimagined—will be held on October 14, 2019 at
their Micro-Amusement Park in downtown Los Angeles. The event reimagines
all the typical aspects expected from a regular Gala, including multiplayer
games, immersive experiences, circus performances, VR, AR, fire, lasers,
robots, and much more. This is not your grandmother’s gala. Two Bit Circus
Foundation is the combination of LA Makerspace, Imagination.org, Trash for
Teaching, and STEAM Carnival, who all share the goal of finding, fostering,
and funding creativity and entrepreneurship in children around the world.
The four non-profit powerhouses joined forces in order to raise a new
generation of innovators and problem solvers with the tools they need to
build the world they imagine. Together, the combined organization is able
to increase efficiency and broaden their program offerings, allowing them
to deliver more globally, including expanding Imagination Chapters around
the world and supporting creativity challenges like International
Checkerboard Day, to be held on November 21, 2019. On this day, proceeds
from the sale of Vans Checkerboard products around the world, up to $1
million, will be donated in support of Imagination.org, powered by Two Bit,
in order to further foster and fund creativity and entrepreneurship in
children around the world.
