Los Angeles-based Mythical Games, a game technology studio which says it
specializes in "digital ecosystems around player-owned economies", has
raised $19M in a new, Series B funding round, the company said this
morning. Mythical Games said the funding was led by Javelin Venture
Partners, and also included new investors Avon Ventures, Alumni Ventures,
and Hashed, along with its current investor Galaxy Digital (via Galaxy EOS

*Bird Rolls Out Toy Scooter, The Birdie*

Just in time for the holidays, Santa Monica-based Bird has rolled out a
brand new, non-electric powered scooter for the kids--the Birdie. According
to Bird, the non-electric scooter, specifically designed for kids, will be
available for a limited time through the holiday season, for $129. Bird
said the new scooter was "in response to demand" for something for the
kids, and was actually designed by Bird's vehicle designers. (More...

*Belkin Powering Chargers For Los Angeles Football Club*

Los Angeles-based electronics products maker Belkin has inked a deal to
power charging stations at the home of the Major League Soccer's Los
Angeles Football Club (LAFC), at the Banc of California stadium, the
company said on Tuesday. According to Belkin, the partnership includes
Belkin wireless and wired chargers, both in the luxury suites and the
Stadium's concourse. Financial details of the deal were not announced. (

*Hyundai Launching New Car Sharing Business In LA*

Hyundai is getting set to launch a new, car-sharing service in Los Angeles,
called Mocean Carshare, the company said this week, ahead of the Los
Angeles Auto Show. According to Hyundai, its new venture, MoceanLab, will
initially launch with 20, plug-in-hybrid vehicles, with plans to eventually
include 300 electric vehicles in its fleet, according to the auto maker. (

*Bird Pushes Safety With Helmet Selfie Campaign*

Santa Monica-based Bird, the on-demand, scooter rental service, is hoping
to encourage better safety among its riders, with a new #HelmetSelfie
campaign, which it launched on Tuesday morning. According to Bird, it will
offer up special incentives and ride credits to users who post a "helmet
selfie", tagged with #HelmetSelfie, and forwarded to the company, in order
to get more of its riders to wear helmets. Bird said it is initially

Peter Adderton, the founder of Boost Mobile, the prepaid cell phone
provider now owned by Sprint, is looking to buy back the company for up to
$2 billion, according to reports. Adderton--a Southern California
entrepreneur who most recently was founder of local 360-degree video camera
maker 360fly, which was backed by L Catterton, Hydra Ventures, and Qualcomm
Ventures, founded Boost Mobile way back in 2000 when Adderton was in

Pasadena-based Heliogen, a clean energy startup which is backed by such
notable investors as Bill Gates, Idealab and local billionaire Dr. Patrick
Soon-Shiong of NantWorks, says it has demonstrated for the first time,
concentrated solar energy which exceeds temperatures greater than 1,000
degrees Celsius. The startup says it is looking to use sunlight to create
and replace fossil fuels, using concentrated sunlight for industrial
