Irvine-based NGD Systems, a company developing "computational storage"
devices which can run AI, machine learning, and analytics functions within
data storage devices, has raised $20M in a Series C funding, the company
said this morning. The funding was led by MIG Capital, and also included
Western Digital Capital Global, Ltd. (the strategic investment fund of
Western Digital Corp.), along with Orange Digital Ventures, Partech, BGV,

*PatientPop Links With Nextdoor*

Santa Monica-based PatientPop, which develops healthcare practice software,
said on Tuesday that ti has linked its tools with Nextdoor, allowing the
healthcare practitioners on its platform to connect with prospective
patients in their immediate vicinity. PatientPop said that healthcare
practices on their platform will now have a presence on Nextdoor, and their
patients will be able to book appointments directly via the platform. (

*Ingram Micro Grows Ecommerce Efforts In Canada*

Irvine-based Ingram Micro, the big computer and technology distributor and
provider of technology and supply chain services, said that its strategic
business unit, Ingram micro Commerce & Lifecycle Services, is seeing record
growth of its Canadian e-commerce business. The company said it saw an 87
percent increase in apparel/footwear orders and a 25 percent increase in

*Xencor Licenses Antibody For Food Allergy Treatment*

Monrovia-based Xencor says it has licensed the rights to its XmAB7195
monoclonal antibody, to Aimmune Therapeutics, a company that it working on
treatments of food allergies. Xencor said it sold the rights to its
antibody for $5 million in cash and $5 million in equity. Xencor also said
the deal is worth up to another $385M based on clinical development,
regulatory, and commercialization milestones. (More...

*Retina.AI Finds $2.5M In Funding*

Los Angeles-based Retina has raised $2.5M more in funding, the company
announced on Tuesday. The funding came from prior investor Crosscut
Ventures. Retina develops customer lifetime value software which companies
used to determine how much their customers are worth to them, helping them
to optimize their cost-per-acquisition. The company's CEO is Michael
Greenberg. The company said the new funding will go towards expanding its

*Amazon Eyes Alexa Team Hiring In Santa Barbara*

Amazon is in a major expansion in Santa Barbara, with plans to hire as many
as 300 people in a new, three story downtown location, all working as part
of the Amazon Alexa team. Amazon's new space, at 1001 State Street, is

and other local universities, as well as from the region's existing supply
