Irvine-based Good Culture, best known for its cottage cheese brand, said on
Wednesday that it has raised $64M in its Series C funding round. The
funding was led by Manna Tree, and also included SEMCAP Food & Nutrition,
pluls celebrity Kristen Bell. The company said it will use the funding to
scale its business. The company is led by co-founder and CEO Jesse Merrill.
Good Culture says it is on a "mission to create foods that are healing for

*Amionx Signs Deal With Chinese Manufacturer*

Carlsbad-based battery technology developer Amionx, a developer of
lithium-ion battery technology, says it has signed a deal with Chinese
battery manufacturer Li-Fun. According to the two, the deal enables Li-Fun
to produce batteries that include SafeCore by Amionx, the safer Lithium
battery technology that is being developed by Amionx. Financial details of
the deal were not announced. Amionx says its technology helps prevent

*Virgin Hyperloop One Cuts Half Of Staff, Pivots To Cargo*

Los Angeles-based "hyperloop" technology developer Virgin Hyperloop One has
cut approximately half of its staff, and pivoted to work on cargo--rather
than passenger--transportation. The high flying company laid off
approximately 111 staffers, according to the Financial Times. Virgin
Hyperloop One has yet to deliver a system, based on an idea tossed out to
the world by Elon Musk of transporting people via giant pneumatic tubes.

*PatientPop Ties With American Academy of Dermatology*

Santa Monica-based PatientPop--which is backed by Leerink Transformation
Partners, Toba Capital, and Silicon Valley Bank--said this morning that it
has become a "preferred provider" for the American Academy of Dermatology
(AAD). PatientPop is a developer of medical practice management software.
According to PatientPop, it will offer up special rates and benefits to AAD

*Starburst Aerospace Launches New Accelerator*

El Segundo-based aerospace and defense accelerator Starburst Aerospace says
it is launching a new startup accelerator effort, called the Minority
Serving Institutions Space Accelerator. The new accelerator is being run as
part of a partnership between Starburst and NASA's Science Mission
Directorate (SMD), its Minority University Research Education Project
within the Office of STEM Engagement, and NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
