*Rivian Expects $5.45 Billion Loss In 2022*

Electric car maker Rivian, which has significant operations in Orange
County, is expecting to lose $5.45 billion in 2022, up from an expected
loss of $4.75 billion it has shared three months ago. The company said it
is facing supply chain challenges and issues with raw materials. Rivian is
developing electric vehicles, and has a major contract to supply delivery

Santa Monica-based security doorbell maker Ring--now part of Amazon--its
gettings its own television show, called Ring Nation, according to
Deadline. According to Deadline, the new syndicated series will be entirely
comprised of videos taken from Ring doorbells, and will be hosted by Wanda

*Haystack Rolls Out New Tool*

Los Angeles-based Haystack said on Thursday that it has launched a new
product, called Connect. According to Haystack, the new tool is built to
"foster deeper relationships among colleagues" and provides tools to
"support better work friendships, facilitate mentor-mentee relationships,
and bring colleagues together on a deeper level." Haystack was founded by
CEO Cameron Lindsay and CTO Haibo Zhao, and says it is a "modern intranet

*DivX Gets Patent Licensing Win At Disney*

San Diego-based digital video technology developer DivX--which has in
recent years pivoted to patent licensing--reported this week that it has
signed an intellectual property (IP) licensing agreement with The Walt
Disney Company. Financial details of the licensing deal were not announced.
DivX said that The Disney Company's streaming services include Disney+,

*FCC Rejects SpaceX Bid For Rural Broadband Subsidies For Starlink*

The Federal Communications Commission has rejected a bid by SpaceX to
access Rural Digital Opportunity Funds, saying that SpaceX's Starlink
network " are not delivering the promised speeds or are not likely to meet
program requirements." SpaceX had asked for a subsidy of nearly $900M from
the program. The FCC said that, although "Starlink's technology has real
question", the question was whether the FCC should "publicly subsidize"

*Invisible Universe Lands $12M For Internet Animation Studio*

Los Angeles-based Invisible Universe, an "Internet-first" animation studio,
said this morning that it has raised $12M in a Series A funding. The
funding was led by Seven Seven Six, and also included Cosmic Venture
Partners, Dapper Labs, Franklin Templeton, Gaingels, Initialized Capital,
Schusterman Family Investments, Wheelhouse and Spencer Rascoff's 75 &
Sunny. The funding also included angels celebrities Serena Williams and
Jennifer Aniston, plus TCG, CASSIUS and Will Smith's Dreamers VC. (More...
