Activision Blizzard has reportedly laid off around 50 esports staff, as
part of a potential overhaul of the Overwatch League, according to reports
today. The reports cite a former staffer saying that the company may use a
"skeleton crew" to finish off the Overwatch League and World Series of
Warzone series, but may be ending its city-based franchise format for
e-sports. That mode was based on the professional sports team franchise

Santa Monica-based Activision Blizzard and Microsoft have agreed to extend
their deadline to complete their $68.7 billion merger, among "remaining
regulatory concerns". According to the two companies, they have extended
their deadline to complete the deal until October 18th. The original

*Futureverse Raises $54M For AI Metaverse Tools*

Los Angeles-based Futureverse, a developer of generative AI technology
which is focused on the gaming market, says it has raised $54M in a Series
A funding. The funding was led by 10T Holdings, and also included Ripple.
Futureverse says its AI content generation tools are "designed to enhance

*Rocket Lab Successfully Launches NASA Mission*

Long Beach-based Rocket Lab successfullly launched a NASA mission to space,
and recovered the company's first stage in New Zealand yesterday. According
to Rocket Lab, the "Baby Come Back" mission deployed seven satellites to
space, including a payload from NASA (the Starling CubeSat mission), and
satellites from Space Flight Laboratory (SFL) and Spire Global. Rocket Lab
also recovered its first stage in a "soft splashdown" using parachutes into
