T Mobile's service is offered as we speak. You have to be a voice
customer for the 19.99 GPRS/EDGE or pay 29.99; Dude WiMAX goes anywhere from
2006 last quarter (I seriously doubt it!) to 2008 ( may happen); most
companies like T/ Sprint VRZN have just bought the bandwidth; like T's 38Mhz
Licensed band to prepare. The RFP failed to pass mustard with IEEE so they
are back to the drawing board on the spec. Its like accounting; a fail is
likely to entail about 5 yrs. on average of development to fulfill reqs.
Think about it logically; what happens when you broadcast outside of the
parking lot; then the first mile; ooops police, fire, marine bands
interference into public service.....like No Way....!!
I have deployed several 3COMS, Zyxel, Adtrans what have you for several
miles but they are monitored routers running off switches.
and who is going to pay for the T1 that these things are tied down to??
It will not happen to soon for the public in general.

When will the t mobile service be announced or is there a beta program. I
would like to try it out. I used the evdo from Verizon and it was very
fast
in most areas where there was coverage.
Does anyone know if there are any WiMax providers offering public service
yet?
Thanks,
Victor

I show T Mobile's EDGE Net running at up to384k, not yet announced (
but
even at 200k ( this is what it will do now) that is some bang for your
buck!
Just plug your data cable from your cell (V330 for one) to your Lappy or
if
you like Spagehtti Configuration you can wrastle with the ERICCY card;
they
are blowing off the EC 79 for the 89; You probably need bluetooth on your
lappy for EDGE with the card. That is with a voice contract only $19.99
and
I think that EVDO is not as available as T Mobile's GPRS/

This requires that you also have a qualifying voice plan (what the
minimum
is, I don't know, but my plan qualifies) and sign up for a 2-year
contract. Otherwise, the price remains $79.99.
