I want to use a PC laptop from a distance (up to 100yds), where the base-station is a (mobile) satellite-DSL (WAN) with a Linksys WRT54G router. I currently have a 15dBi omni-antenna (bought from wlanparts.com) or Backfire 14dBi directional (bought from radiolabs.com) going thru a 1-watt amp (bought from wlanparts.com).
The PC laptop is a HP Pavilion, so it's internal-antenna cannot be bypassed with an external antenna? If so, what cards are available? I assume both of these vendors are selling the Senao NL-2511DC: http://wlanparts.com/product/WDNL2511CDPLUSEXT2 http://www.radiolabs.com/products/wireless/networking/long-range-notebook-wifi-kit.php " THIS IS A SPECIAL ORDER "25 CHIPSET" CARD THAT USUALLY TAKES MONTHS TO GET - RADIOLABS HAS THESE IN STOCK NOW AT A GREAT PRICE!" ------------------ What about the 300mw card from wlanparts.com: 300mw Z-COM WLAN PC Card, RP-MMCX, 802.11b Higher Power - XI-325HPPLUS or these options from radiolabs.com: http://www.radiolabs.com/products/wireless/wireless-cards.php My application requires me to use the laptop in the field, where it can get hot. How do people handle this? I was thinking of using one of those coolers with wheels: putting some ice on the bottom, plate, & the laptop. Or, can I do something with a backpack?
