This Just In... We profiled Connexion previously at SOCALWUG. It's the in flight Wi-Fi service provided by Boeing that uses (err, used to use) a Boeing satellite uplink to bring Internet to airliners in flight. (Internet on a plane!)
Airlines invested heavily preparing for the service (up to $1 million per plane.) So I bet it won't go down without a fight. -Mike -----Original Message----- From: Wi-Fi Networking News Sent: Thursday, August 17, 2006 10:41 AM Subject: [Wi-Fi Net News] Connexion Down By Glenn Fleishman Special to Wi-Fi Networking News SPONSORED MESSAGE ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Doing business in China? They spent six weeks evaluating whether they could sell the service. They apparently couldn't. They will write down $320m. Some of these fees are paid to airlines for early termination. The company seemed to reveal in a conference call on earnings a few weeks ago that the service costs $120m per year to operate. Lufthansa vows to get the service running again. They installed it on 80 percent of their long-haul planes, were one of the first, and have the most planes by far hooked up.
