I have a Powerbook w/Verizon aircard. 1 year ago I couldn't get a signal in the desert off of I15 (north of Primm, near CA-NV border). I hooked up a Wilson amplifier & 7dbi external antenna (omni) & got a couple bars of strength. I was able to surf the web.
This year I went offroading in someones 4x4 (80 mile loop north of Primm), & was able to get some signals & deliver video back to the web: http://tinyurl.com/y392xl I was using the same amplifier + 7dbi antenna combo.
