Yup… I saw the consumerist articles and I wrote up the Geek Squad (peep
squad) article.

Basically our plan is to take a fully functioning computer (except for a
slightly unplugged drive cable) to several local stores and see if they
catch the problem.

Kcal 9 did the same thing a few months ago with some interesting results.

Also for what its worth, consumerist.com has posted some of their internal
training materials and stories from Geek Squad employees detailing the fall
of the company after being merged with Best Buy.

You've probably already seen those stories, but if not, check them out.

i haven't had any experiences with them, and i imagine this group tends to
do a lot of geek work themselves, but there was recently a news article or
story about a geek squad member trying to video a client in the restroom
with there cell phone. They realized what he was doing and arrested him,
but now whenever i hear about them, all i remember is that story.

I don't know if that issue is relevent, but it's all i got.

Subject: [SOCALWUG] Geek Squad experiences

Hello all,

I was wondering if any of you know people working with the Geek Squad or
have had any experience with their computer support (either positive or
negative).

I’m doing an investigative piece about them for TG Daily/Tom’s Hardware
Guide. So far I’m talking with more than 20 current and former “agents”,
but all of them aren’t local to the area.

Thanks,
