Google's long shot in wireless The company offers to bid for airwaves, and
that could lead to open access and lower broadband prices.

WASHINGTON -- If Google Inc. has its way, your cellphone will work on
any wireless network and companies will sell high-speed Internet access for
cut-rate prices.

Google thinks that would be a wonderful world -- for consumers as well as its
own bottom line -- and it's proposing to pony up $4.6 billion in a long-shot
bid to create it.

............... I am not sure of the technical details and how it will all
work out but Google seems to be on a path to make the wireless world more
interesting. While their motto is often quoted "Do no harm", I would suggest
that their competition does not feel they are following it very closely.
