The summer issue of 2600 ("The Hacker Quarterly") magazine has

In "802.11b Reception Tricks" the author goes to town trying to build the most powerful antenna he can on cheap equipment to reach nearby APs -- he was able to get about 17dB gain with a certain brand of tennis ball can.

"McWireless Exposed" is about McDonald's new wireless setup via Cometa Networks. Apparently they have backdoors for techs to administer the access points and are fairly easy to gain access to during the free (and one assumes limited?) introductory period.
