RFID Panel Topics

RF Identification technology (RFID) is said to be on the verge of a breakout led by a
multiple firms from Silicon Valley. Executives of
Northern California RFID vendors are empanelled to speak to the technical and business
challenges they face, the market segments
they have targeted, and the differentiators that characterize this explosive market,
after which panelists will respond to audience
questions.

The challenge of RFID is technical and economic in providing the remote identification
of objects, groups of objects, people, animals,
luggage and a host of supply products, as they move through our supply, transportation
and utilizations chains. Remoteness for
detection and identification varies from as little as a few inches with contact-less
methodologies, to several meters for passive RF
reflective technology, to hundreds of meters for actively powered devices. The matrix
of applications, customers, and supplier
approaches and aspects is immense. The technologies include RF hardware, packaging,
middleware, communications methods to
connect system applications in manufacturing, warehousing, to the
writing/printing/reading and communications of the tag data.
The standardization issues alone are newly emerging and a challenge to define without
limiting progress.

The panel will be Moderated by Edward Radkowski, a Board member of the WCA, former
Corporate Executive at Silicon Valley
Communications, Litton, and General Instrument now consultant at Venture Research and
Vice President at Wireless Dynamics.
