As for the overuse, I was snowed in at Lake Tahoe for a week around New Year's Day, and not only I but one of my friends were using the thing some ten to fifteen hours a day every day for a week, and when I got my bill, it was the standard $10 charge! It was our only link to the outside world, cable and phone were out, and worked very well. I was able to keep up on all my spam, and even an important matter or two as well...

sprint have a deal where if you have a phone with a suitable cable you can 'dial
up' basically its free since its part of the service , but they watch for you overusing it apparently and can switch it off, according to rumour, so far i've never had that happen. its the pcs one, its a lot cheaper than the laptop version if you already have a suitable
phone

unfortunately while i am in the UK tmobiles equivalent service is about 56k
and costs around 7.5p per 1K, terrible :)

I did a quick check of the various provider's "3g" data services for
laptops and PDA's. Looks like T-Mobile has quite a good deal going on.
