Could the Airgain Phased Array be another paper tiger? A year and a half
ago the buzz around Vivato created a slew of them. A sharp treatment on
this phenomenon from Vivato's Phil Belanger can be found in

Today though still struggling, Vivato did deliver and does in fact sell a
technology that can be with some confidence termed a switch or phased array.
Vivato also has an FCC ID, which in some ways is similar to a UL rating.
The FCC grants these to all who get their products tested to ensure that
they obey standard FCC rules and regs. The granted FCC ID's are kept in a
database. Consumer products, like Linksys and D-Link, can all be found
there. Even relatively new commerical products, like BelAir and Tropos, are
to be found. I checked and no listing exists for Airgain, which is not
conclusive evidence that it is a paper tiger, but having such an ID would
fast rule it out.

At any rate, I think the history of Vivato and its paper tiger competitors
serve as a sobering reminder that just because a firm makes a few diagrams
or press releases, there is no precedent to be optimistic about the the
realization of any wireless paper tiger.

Any word on when AirMesh purports to deploy Airgain products in Cerritos?
The following press release discusses this:
