Tech support forgot to tell you to re-format the
hard drive, and do a hard reset on the router. :(

What about the wireless drivers in the Dell ?
what brand are they ? Might be a Linksys WON'T
talk to a brand XYZ

Get the network going in plain vanilla mode first -
before powering up YOUR router, do a site survey from
the dell, it may find a network, it may work for you,
then you can get your own router up.

Do you have a hard-wire cable you can use between the
dell & your router, to config your router and re-name
it's SSID, so you know you are connecting to it ?
That would also confirm the router is handing out
IP address etc.... Maybe look for a firmware update for
the linksys router.
