well apart from the CF card, check out the buffalo net station thing, you can pretty much alter it to do anything you want, its low power consumption and relatively cheap also a few places have been selling them cheaply, compusa just did it recently

Subject: [SOCALWUG] Hardware chooses
Hello,
I have a question that is kind of off topic.
I am looking to build a small, silent box to run linux on. It will be running Apache, PHP and Mysql. Basically I want it for nocatsplash captive portal.
Looking at Soekris 4801, WRAP board or a mini/nano ITX. What would be the best platform to put together? Has anyone ever tried this? How often can you write to a CF card before it goes? If it just a small web server or captive portal, wouldn't it be fine because most of the data would be cached?
Kelley
