"Wireless carriers, entrepreneurs, and others yesterday bid nearly $1 billion in the first day of an FCC auction of spectrum in the 1850 MHz to 1990 MHz bands. The auction of 242 spectrum licenses is expected to continue today with 31 of the 35 eligible bidders still participating. There is still no way to gauge how long the auction will last or how much will be bid. The spectrum being auctioned was held previously by NextWave Telecom. According to analysts at Legg Mason, this could be the last major spectrum auction for some time."
