Vadim,

If SOCI receives a patch that improves current CMake-based configuration
and does not break SOCI as a whole, it will be merged.
Even if it may be helpful for some users, I personally have neither interest nor
resources to enable potential for use of external builders.

I, however, don't mind to keep SOCI configuration 'generic', but there
needs to be
someone who will keep an eye on that, adjust pull requests, test things, etc.

AppVeyor has low priority.
AFAIS, there is no version number in installation.md

Every time I prepare a new release, I have to keep in mind to update two places,
as listed here

I agree, it would be best if it is in version.h header,
but I had no time to do it myself.
