I'm not sure how timing relates to reminding about editing, but I could be
misreading you. I also have misgivings about pointing to 'how to get
started' guides because most of them are overwhelming. I do agree about
pointing people to things -- talking about where to learn to edit in
person, etc. I suppose we'd have to be careful about giving voice equally
in the world and to various events.
