Hhhmm... what I thought they were doing was making "Intel boxes" with
some small tweak so only they could run OS X. In ohter words, you'd
still have to buy the computer from Apple, but that same computer
could also run an off-the-shelf x86 Linux and Windows.
I was excited at the thought that my brother could have OS X and
Windows on the same computer. OS X for work and Windows for games.
Now, the Apple spokesman said that Apple was doing nothing to preclude
that possibilty. So your dream my still be alive. You might be able to
run Windows on a Mactel computer. Apple doesn't seem too worried about
that.
I mean, to the average consumer - why buy a Mac computer, (which will
still likely cost more than your average Intel), and put Windows on it -
when you can spend less money for a machine designed by a company that
"Recommends Windows XP"?
To the hackers, geeks, and wannabes out there, like me, it is likely to
be done, but not something Apple or Microsoft is likely to care about.
Xbox will run on a G5? The world is indeed on its head...
yep - a triple-core G5 IBM processor, and an ATI graphics card -- just
like a current model Apple.
