Bolton is in the North West of England and has quite a lot of Asian culture embedded in its working class but cosmopolitan environs. One of the things I noticed on my recent and past visits to the USA is a lack of Indian (Asian) eating establishments by comparison to this side of the pond. (Maybe you just disguise them under signs such as El Polo Loco, Wendy's and KFC ;-) ). When we say Asian we tend to mean Indian/Pakistan origins whereas it seems Asian in the US is more related to Chinese. Bolton has quite a few Indian Restaurants also known as Curry Houses, coloquially. Balti houses tend to specialise in Balti dishes which are served in the metal bowl they get cooked in. Quite a few Balti houses don't serve alcohol but they let you bring your own and provide a corkscrew. A relatively recent English tradition is to drink about a gallon of beer in the local pub and then stagger off to the nearest curry house. This makes the reason for booking separate hotel rooms fairly self-evident :-) -- Ian Lynch <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> ZMSL
