This morning I participated in a conference call of the Social Web
Incubator Group at the W3C:

Folks on the call were very interested in XMPP and the role it can
play
in building the social web, so I'm sure that this is just the
beginning
of further conversation. If anyone on this list is interested in
participating, I'd be happy to introduce you to the group chairs.
