>>>If I were to guess...it might have something to do
with keeping the money out of that 'jam jar in the
back yard', and in circulation. <<<

This was Silvio Gesell's proposition picked up by
Keynes.

We may take the jam jar to be metaphor for income
received that has not been spent for the products of
industry but rather investment. Douglas expanded the
concept to include account balances held by firms in
that both consumers have jam jars and firms have jam
jars.

Rather than forcing people--like good fascists--to
spend their money faster on goods and services, by
cracking the whip, by the progressive taxation of the
money in the jam jars, or whatever, Douglas would
apply simple macroeconomic accounting adjustment to
accommodate the differential between the costs of
production and the money in the jam jars. People who
want to put money into jam jars can put money into
jam jars. People who want what industry can produce
can have what industry can produce. In a free
society one does not impinge nor preclude the other.

>>>It would seem to me...that 'interest' under Social
Credit might still be a way of constraining the
individual that could be misused. <<<

Interest is simply the name for the gross profit
received by the financial sector. The financial
sector (the "banks") is the most pervasive monopoly
imaginable. It is a natural monopoly because being a
monopoly benefits all of us--but we need to recognize
that, and they need to recognize that. That means
must we bring the monopoly under conscious control
and restraint. But we cannot bring it under control
unless we understand how it works. I'll say
categorically, anyone who advocates that interest be
abolished does not have the foggiest idea how it
works.

You speak of "constraining the individual." You
definitely constrain the individual if you prohibit
the charging for services rendered, for if you
prohibit the charging for services rendered in an
otherwise free society, you make impossible the
supply of the services. The alternative to charging
and paying for services rendered is some permutation
of slavery.
