That was one inference that occcurred to me from you comments. Since it doesn't seem to have hit the spot, I'll try another of them:
There was some discussion here a few weeks ago about Douglas' identification of "the first trench to be taken". This was said to be a development that came later in his career, and which he distinguished from making persuasive arguments in favor of his ideas for economic policy. As I understand it, the "first trench" is occupied by opponents with wrong ideas. I have occasionally received the impression from a comment of yours that contents of the first trench are an annoyance to you, a secondary issue that could almost be brushed aside in favor of the more important task of showing economists that their disciplinary backgkround should make them believers if they only got their heads screwed on straight.
