THOUGHT OF THE DAY--18/05/2017. MAWLYNGNONG( pronounced as Malingnan) is a tiny village in the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya with a population of 600. In 2003 it made a blast in the international level. Discover India worldwide magazine selected that village as the CLEANEST VILLAGE of Asia. Since then every year that village is retaining that crown. In 2005 Indian Government declared that village as the Cleanest village of India. Many international media came there, made the documentaries and declared that village as the GOD'S OWN GARDEN! In 1990s the village suffered because of Cholera and the villagers learnt a great lesson out of it. 24 years ago every house is equipped with toilet. Plastic was 100% banned. Systematic drainages, effective solid waste management, no entry to polluting industries and vehicles, compulsory environmental education in schools, rain water harvest...and what not! Cleanliness is in their blood and part of their life. Every student go to school only after cleaning the compounds and roads. Every house has a garden. Nobody is allowed to recess in the public. No smoking is strictly followed. Every house has a bamboo basket of triangular shape to collect and classify the wastes. PM Modi mentioned the name of the village in his Man Ki Bath program. That little village is a real model to all of us who believe cleanliness is next to God. Good day.
