The remote mounting *is* where I'm currently stuck (see URL in my OP ^^^).

I'm 'close' -- in that pfsense actually *starts* to boot (init via
pxeboot/tftp, kernel via nfs) but then dies at an nfs error. Waiting
on an answer.

As for CF-only use.  Imho, a 4801 is vast overkill.  For a flash-based
device, a Broadcom-based SOHO router (e.g., Buffalo, ASUS, Linksys)
modded with a 3rd-party firmware (e.g., OpenWRT, Sveasoft, DD-WRT) is
a very cost-effective, functional solution.  But, I understand that
needs/reqs differ.

Also, from a price perspective, a decent CF card is ~ what,
$20-30-ish?  A 40Gb, 5400 rpm, 2.5" Hitachi Travelstar is ~ $35-45.
Seemed a clear choice to me.
