"On board" as in the system RAM? Or the compact flash? You cannot use a
USB flash memory device as an extension of your physical RAM, for many
reasons (it's not RAM, it's USB 1.1, etc.). You could use it as storage,
putting a filesystem on it, but as the 4801's integrated USB bus is USB
1.1 only, it will be much slower than compact flash (12 Mbps peak bus
bandwidth, minus protocol overhead).

If you wish to use it as another filesystem, you'd need to partition it,
make the filesystem, and mount it. This would be dependent on your
choice of operating system.
