For CF you dont want to mount it read / write as CFs are not designed to handle that sort of write quantity. Read only however is not a problem. Take a look at something like NanoBSD on FreeBSD or FlashDist for OpenBSD. (http://www.nmedia.net/~chris/soekris/)... However, I dont think the CPU could handle that level of traffic in a 48xx series Soekris.
