Hello,
I am using a vpn1401 in a Asus CUBX-L board under FreeBSD 6.2
with great success. Today I added the same card to an ASUS
P2B-L board. However, after power-up the box didn't boot anymore.
There was no POST and no beep at all. I quickly powered off
the machine, examined the whole stuff again but found no sign
of an error. I then relocated the vpn1401 to another slot
but the results were the same.
To verify that the vpn1401 is OK, I swapped it with the one in
the CUBX-L board were it worked properly (to be correct, it is
still installed in there). The other card (the one which had
been plugged into the CUBX-L until now) showed the same
behaviour in the P2B-L (no POST, no beep).
One more thing I observed was that the hifn-chip warmed up a
bit in the P2B-L while in the CUBX-L it stayed cool.
Could it be that the vpn1401 can not be operated in an ASUS
P2B-L? I understand that the P2B-L is slightly older than the
CUBX-L and these two boards might have different PCI revisions
(CUBX-L is rev. 2.2, P2B-L is ???) but the fact that the chip
warmed up in the P2B-L makes me think it might be a 3.3 / 5 Volt
issue. On the other hand the website states that the card can
be operated with 3.3 and 5 Volts.
I would like to point out that both vpn1401 are intact and
I have even tried another P2B-L board whith the same results.
Any ideas regarding this?
Thanks,
-Andre
