it is only muted during POST ( I guess that is what they mean with
'post'). As soon as the boot manager (LILO, GRUB or whatever) takes
over then it isn't muted any longer?
But I think we have got it settled now. And would all the discussers
of Spanning Tree please make their own thread ;-)
