   I do this on my 4801 running FC5 over a WiFi link ( 1 hop ) and it works 
well.

   Look at this: http://64.124.13.3/hacks/multiple_wm.html and see if it makes
sense to you.

It is not that hard to do, basically,

   on your local PC
     1) Configure GDM to allow connection.
     2) xhost +xx.xx.xx.xx (server IP) ( wish I could make this permanently! )
   on your server:
     1) ssh into server
     2) export DISPLAY=xx.xx.xx.xx:0.0
     3) start your X app, xterm, gnome-terminal, seamonkey, etc.
