I have gotten many new pieces of kit this year at work, about 40% are DCE pin placement. I had to start taking notes on which RJ-45 adapter to use with which. I say placement because all of them use male pins, where only a DTE should be male. About the only piece of gear I know that gets it right is an external modem.
