I'm about to build a couple of modest NET5501 servers, so I'm looking
for some 2.5-inch hard disks that can tolerate 24*7 running. The
Travelstar E5K and E7K ranges looks plausible for this job:

Their web page lists capacities up to 500 GB, in 5400 RPM (E5Kxxx) and
7200 (E7Kxxx) RPM versions. Presumably the E5K versions use slightly
less power, and should run a bit cooler.
The problem is finding anyone who sells these drives. To confuse
things further, it's likely that a fair number of the drives listed on
the web page are not available for sale yet (for example, I have not
yet seen 500GB in any 2.5-inch hard drive). One supplier said he
could only quote against a specific part number, so I asked Hitachi
which drive models were actually available for ordering now. Hitachi
refused to answer, referring me to their distributors: but
distributors are unlikely deal with end-users.
Has anyone found a good supplier for these drives, or a good contact
at Hitachi?
Can anyone suggest other suitable drives for the NET5501? Preferably
high capacity.
