I connected a 2.5 inch HDD to my desktop PC and installed the full
version of FreeBSD 7.0 there. Then I stuck the drive in my (512MB)
5501 and the kernel booted fine. Finally, I got on the serial console
and played with mount and fstab to change to the right device names
so the file systems created on the PC could be mounted. I also
brought up telnetd so I could do the rest of the configuration over
the LAN.

YMMV, but this works fine if you are going to use the Soekris as a
little server with a HHD and don't want to worry about dealing with
CF and "embedded" BSD variants.
