It's been a few years since I had any Soekris gear and I just received some new 5501s. I attached the SATA drive to a PC, installed FreeBSD, then moved the drive to the 5501. I was expecting it to boot, whine about /etc/fstab being wrong, moving it back to the original install PC to edit, then being off and running. Instead I've got ComBIOS on startup, indecipherable junk during the boot (expected), and then it just stops with a blinking cursor. I did edit /etc/ttys setting all the serial ones to 'on' and 19,200 baud. Reaching way back into my memory I guessed that replacing /dev/ad0 with /dev/da0 might be the right thing, but sadly, no.
