Today I ran some unscientific tests on a net4521 to see how what power
savings I could achieve by switching the on-board PCI devices from D0
to D3 state. Switching the two ethernets to D3 state seemed to reduce
the total current drawn (measured at the wall plug) by about 36%. If
you run a Soekris from battery and/or solar power, this may be a useful
savings, easily achieved.

I did the experiments using NetBSD.

My instrumentation and methodology is not very sophisticated: I plugged
the PoE injector into a Kill-A-Watt. BTW, I suspect that my PoE
injector is very inefficient.
