No, it is possible under Lenny, with the sxc200_wdt module and the
watchdog package.

soekris:~# uname -a
Linux soekris 2.6.26-2-486 #1 Wed May 12 21:03:35 UTC 2010 i586 GNU/Linux

modinfo scx200_wdt

(Have it running on a net4801)

But the original question was for Squeeze...

While you've nothing to loose trying under Squeeze with the stock
kernel, I can't have it running here on the same (2.6.32) backported
kernel for Lenny. The module doesn't load for an (yet) undebugged
reason :

uname -a
Linux shazam 2.6.32-bpo.4-686 #1 SMP Mon Apr 12 16:20:13 UTC 2010 i586 GNU/Linux

modprobe scx200_wdt
FATAL: Error inserting scx200_wdt
(/lib/modules/2.6.32-bpo.4-686/kernel/drivers/watchdog/scx200_wdt.ko): No such
device

Of course, YMMV under a real Squeeze box.

Hih,
