Hi, Thanks for the answers, I did some more googling and ended up with:
sysctl kern.geom.debugflags=0x10 (GEOM seems to writeprotect things...) dd if=/dev/ad6 of=/dev/ad6 count=1 seek=xxxxxxx (lba sector with error) That fixed the unrecoverable read errors and I was then able to run fsck to completion, although it reported a couple of unimportant files lost, which I can get from the backup.
