For our city's Winter festival, I wanted to put together a simple IVR in
a booth that would be outside in the depths of winter. The idea is the
kid picks up a phone to hear a message from {Santa | Mrs. Santa
reindeer|whatever else the org want to record}... and thats about it.
The local telco charges the organizers a special 'charity price' of
$1000 for the month for 2 phone lines.... So, I thought instead I can
donate a soekris box with some IVR software on it that would do the same
thing.
The challenge is that the temp can range from +10C to -30C. I know the
board is rated to -60C and typically it wont hit -30C (more like -10C),
but are there any special precautions I should take to deploy the box in
the outdoors during winter ? I will be locked up inside a weather proof
hut so there will not be any direct moisture on it, but the range of
temps will probably cause some condensation.
Also while I am here, can anyone recommend a distro that would be easy
to set all this up ? PCI card or USB device that I could hook up a pair
of regular handsets to ?
