Also to you a happy new year. > I just bought a Soekris 6501/50 with a 1 Slot Standard Case a few days ago and would > like to configure it as a Wireless Access Point to replace the failing Linksys Wifi router > I have now. Before you will send the Linksys going to sleep for ever, perhaps you will give him a second chance with the DD-WRT router OS, for Linksys routers no fee must be paid for the software, but be sure that your model is supported. They have a router database for supported hardware on their website, one of the best I´ve ever seen. <http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/support/router-database> > If possible i'd like to run PfSense as the OS and use a compatible wireless card . > Below is a list of options i've come across. Be sure that the WLAN card has a driver support. Than please have a look in the man pages or try a search in the pfSense forum that the AP mode will be supported also. But in their European shop Soekris is offering some WLAN cards for the mini PCIe and PCIe slot. < http://soekris.eu/shop/accessories_net6501_en/> > Wireless Card options: > > 1. Ubiquiti SR71-E PCI Card 802.11a/n 802.11b/g/n (802.11a/n 5GHz, 802.11b/g/n > 2.4GHz) > http://store.netgate.com/Ubiquiti-SR71-E-PCI-Card-80211an-80211bgn- > P309C29.aspx Please be sure, that all modes are accepted an supported, you really need, if you keeping an eye on the 802.11n standard it will perhaps not run or available at this time, my last info about this was 29.12.2011 in the pfSense forum here: <http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php?topic=44517.0;prev_next=next> I think it is a wish of many users, so in the future they perhaps will be support this standard. It is a great pity that are not so many mini PCIe cards out there till this time, as I wished, because I´m think that this will be perhaps the future standard. Or not? But perhaps also not, that is in my eyes not so clear at the moment and we will see what other embedded companies will integrate in their hardware in future times. IEI - with the start of the Nova-PV 525 series they have done it also (two mini PCIe slots) LianTec - TBM-X2000PE, TBM-X2000P2 Series with daughter or extension boards dual PCIe PCEngines - we will see, it is still under construction So is the question should they all go wrong or is the industry a little bit to lame or there is no really market. > Mini PCI-E to PCI-E adapter > > MP2A with ANT2458Q5P (2.4/5.8GHz Rubber Duck Antenna) > http://www.hwtools.net/Adapter/MP2A.html > http://www.bplus.com.tw/PDF/Compatibility_List.pdf If the adapters are working with the net6501 it will be an interesting option! No drilling holes, sorted with antennas, in shorter words; all you need. The other adapters with 4 antennas are also looking very fancy 3 antennas for WLAN and a 4 for a UMTS antenna perhaps. Cool link posted by you. > 2. This is really danger to tell you because I still waiting for exactly the same answer! Ok I´ll prefer the net6501-70 variant but in combination with the SR71-E and pfSense it must be a machine to rule. I other cases peoples were choosing the IPCop or IPFire in combination with the SR-71 E with the main view on the better driver support, but if they were lucky and safe with this I really don´t know? So please accept that I don´t answering you that question really ;) > Look forward to people's comments.
