I'm using the 8GB low profile USB drive as sold by Soekris, and warm boots with some combinations of machine and usb stick are unreliable. I haven't yet determined whether it is an issue with the drives themselves or the boxes.
The problem occurs after loading the kernel, at the stage at which the root filesystem is mounted. Sometimes the boot happens just fine, and sometimes the console hangs with no readable output. We have multiple net6501s and are experiencing this issue with some-but-not-all of them. I'll post an update when I'm able to do some differential diagnosis - until then, I'd be interested in knowing if others are having the same problem FYI, my /boot/loader.conf has kern.cam.boot_delay="5000" kern.cam.scsi_delay="10000" hint.acpi.0.disabled="1" console="comconsole" Cheers. - M
