Which looks like a definite limitation or bug. But I certainly can't
rule out something more complex, and will take your word that this is
the case. I'd be interested if someone can definitely say that it is

The priority is to support the internal USB connector to be used for
flash for permanent booting and otherwise the external USB connector
to install from.
The USB code is something we licensed, we do have the source (in x86
assembler) and will work to improve it, but it's currently not highest
priority. And as a small company we just can't purchase all kind of
hardware to test with.
We just added some manpower and will work to make a list of things known
and not known to work.
Sounds reasonable, but how about an option to just disable USB at boot?
Maybe a comBIOS variable "DisableUSB"?
While USB booting is convenient for OS installation, I don't need it
otherwise. I'm quite happy to leave all the complexity for a real OS to
deal with. But I really want the machines to boot reliably, regardless
of what someone plugs into the USB port.
