Hello Steve

Good to run into you again! Although I hopefully do them with a bit
more skill, I'm still involved in many of the same things I was 20+
years ago: designing RF hardware, warming-up the Moon, and playing a
bit of music. I even managed to get a CD track sampled into a Radio 1
jingle - not that I'm especially proud of that, but the PRS was nice!!

I agree wholeheartedly with your comments about cheap PC audio
devices. The guys who write the advertising seem either to live on
another planet or have had the concept of honesty completly
obliterated. My suspicion is that the M-Audio Transit box probably
does sample at 96kHz, but I'd need to establish that on the bench, and
there aren't enough hours in the day. For about $70 it isn't a very
bad buy, but you get what you pay for, of course. Currently the major
problem for me is that the USB interface is a bit wacky, and it's
difficult to use under Linux.

I'm hanging-on for a few months to see what happens with the
continuing development of Linux digital audio before I buy a better
unit. If you have any suggestions, stemming from your professional
experience, I'd be pleased to hear of them...

Hope to run into you in person sometime!
