The european patent offices are working with their feet following the interests of a lobby of intellectual property lawyers (as the US one's do as you stated, Robert). However the EU parliament is actually working on new EU laws which exactly define how the patent offices must operate. The aim of the EU parliament is emphasized by the recent decisions taken about the sotware patents (the exact opposite to the US patent laws!). The strong protests and efforts of the EU citizens against the lobby of the EU and extra EU big enterprises (Microsoft is only one of these) have been greatly represented in the EU parliament imposing the decisions taken against the lobby. http://noepatents.eu.org/index.php/NO_Software_Patents In this case the EU patent offices have already collected a lot of patents in contrast to the EU parliament's guidelines promulgated in former time (say years before). Cancellation without compromises of many of this patents is now the inevitable consequence. Now, all this demonstrates how democracy is considered in the EU today! ......... Alberto, there is a better way for bra size determination: measuring the volume by immersion in a near liquid media (somebody will sure propose a mud filled pool... :-) ).
